There are 9 interest groups at the present, The groups vary in size depending on the number of members interested, the size of the meeting place and the type of activity. Groups can meet weekly, fortnightly or monthly and they may continue through the year or for just part of the year.
Members can volunteer to lead a group on a subject in which they have an interest or possibly some special expertise. The leader is then responsible for organising the content of the meeting. Other groups are led by the members of the group with a co-ordinator as a contact person/administrator.
Any member of Keighley u3a can volunteer to set up a new interest group; advice and support is available from the secretary, the committee and from the national organisation, the Third Age Trust.
While we are looking for members to lead new interest groups, nobody is obliged to do this. If you have a particular interest or some expertise in a subject and would like to help form a group for this, please let a member of the committee know. The u3a is a self-help organisation and the philosophy is that we are all teachers and learners.
When you join you will receive full details of the groups and the group leaders contact numbers. Pick and choose which groups you are interested in. You will be most welcome to join.
Membership of the groups is included in the branch annual subscription. Where a room has to be hired and resources are needed there is an additional charge to take into account the cost of the room; at present this is £3 per meeting..
NEW GROUPS
Please let us know what new groups you would like to see developed. If enough members are interested and a co-ordinator identified, the committee would support setting up the group. A couple of possibilities are Photography and Local History; any offers?
