KEIGHLEY THIRD AGE GROUP

Learn, Laugh, Live

"The trouble with retirement is that you never get a day off" - Abe Lemons

We offer a new start in life -
- meeting new, interesting people
- new interests to pursue
- new activities to enjoy.

Who can join?
If you are retired or semi-retired, you can join our group. A visit to our monthly social gathering is a good way to meet other members and see what we are about. Members come from all walks of life and require no prior qualifications, except a desire to go on learning and acquiring new skills, and a willingness to share interests.

Our aim:

The idea is that U3A members pass on their life skills and engage the interest of others in continuing to learn and expand their horizons. This idea was too good to keep to just a few enthusiasts, so posters went up in libraries, advertisements appeared in local papers and friends were enlisted. As a result our start-up meeting attracted quite a few members. The Keighley Third Age Group has grown from strength to strength. We now have about 85 members. At present there are 9 interest groups, all led by members. If you have an idea for a new group, we will do all we can to support you.

Members get together monthly to socialise; usually there is a speaker. Guests are welcome at the monthly meetings to meet members and find out what we are about. There are occasional visits to places of interest, often subsidised for U3A members. We have a Facebook page "Keighley U3A" which gives details of current events - feel free to have a look.

Subscriptions
The Annual Membership subscription has always been modest. Members are determined that no one should be prevented from attending by reason of finance. For 2026-27 it continues to be £7 for a single member. From this a capitation fee, currently £3.50 per member, is paid to the Third Age Trust (our "head office") in return for their support and assistance whenever needed.

Publications
We can choose to receive a magazine, "Third Age Matters", 5 times a year from the Third Age Trust (our national body) with articles of interest about the U3A from all over the UK and abroad. There is link on this site to an abbreviated online edition (click on "U3A Matters" above).
